Install Halyx on Windows

Install Halyx on Windows 10 or 11 without administrator rights, allow the firewall, open the console on a tablet with the QR code.

Download and run the installer

  1. Download Halyx-Setup.exe from the Download page.
  2. Run it. Halyx installs for your user, without administrator rights, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Halyx, with a shortcut in the Start menu and on the Desktop, then launches.
  3. Until the executable is signed, Windows may show "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway.

Reinstalling over it keeps everything (shows, profiles, account). The bare executable (halyx-windows-x64.exe) also runs without installing.

Allow the network

On first launch, Windows asks for network access: tick private and public networks. On a fixed-address stage network without a gateway, Windows classes the network as "Public": without that box, the light goes out but tablets cannot reach the console. Halyx detects it and says so, with a button that opens the right setting (see Network, nodes and firewall).

The launch window

Halyx opens in a small window (no console):

  • the choice of network adapter for the tablets;
  • the address and QR code to scan with a tablet or phone;
  • Open the console opens it in the PC's browser;
  • the close button tucks the window into the notification area: the engine and the light keep running. Only Quit stops it, after confirmation;
  • Start Halyx with Windows, if the PC is dedicated to lighting.

While Halyx runs, the PC does not go to sleep by itself (on a laptop, sleep would cut DMX mid-show). To play with the lid closed, set the lid action to "Do nothing".

Updates

Halyx offers new versions in Settings › Updates, with what's new, never forcing them. They install in one click and are signed.

Frequently asked questions

Does Halyx run on Mac?

The engine is published for Windows 10 and 11. The screens work on any device with a browser, Mac, iPad and iPhone included. macOS, Linux and Raspberry Pi versions of the engine are planned.

Do I need administrator rights?

No, Halyx installs per user. Only changing an existing firewall rule may ask for them.
